What is Book value per share?

Book value per share is shareholders' equity divided by the number of ordinary shares outstanding.

Equity is what is left of the assets after all liabilities: in accounting terms, what shareholders own. Dividing it by the shares outstanding gives the book value behind each share.

Formula

Book value per share = equity attributable to shareholders ÷ shares outstanding
